My name is Shayla, I’m 18 years old and I live in Beautiful British Columbia.
On April 7th, 1998, I was born, becoming the final member of our average sized Canadian family; just my dad, my mom, my sister and me. We are far from the perfect family, but I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone else.
I was raised going to church every Sunday that I could remember. I got to wear my cute dresses and little black shoes and tear it up in Sunday School with a bunch of other little nerds. I was nine years old at Bible Camp when I invited Jesus into my life. Now although my camp experience was far from great, (my leader dropped me in a trust fall, I tried making bannock but it ended up as half charcoal, half raw and covered in dirt, and I had no friends) I left camp as a daughter of Christ and began a journey that I never could have imagined.
In 2013, I joined a team of youth from my church and went on a missions trip to Ecuador. This was a pivotal moment in my life where I made life long connections, took my faith into my own hands, and discovered my heart for missions work.
Over the past three years, God has lead me to new opportunities to share the gospel. From serving with the children at my home church, taking part in a leadership program at a near-by Bible Camp and going overseas again, this time to Colombia in 2015 to share His love internationally.
Now I am here, in the midst of setting myself up to begin the Backpack Europe DTS at YWAM Biarritz.
Welcome to my story, I hope you will journey with me.
